Proxiluz FAQ
If you cannot find the answer to your question in this section, do not hesitate to ask it by email to the address proxiluz@gmail.com
Are my original photos at risk of being damaged?
Absolutely not. All our work is done digitally. Your originals are handled with protective gloves, scanned in high definition, and then securely stored. The restoration and colorization process never physically alters your paper.
Can I request changes to a colorization?
That's the beauty of handcrafted work. For the "Expert Colorization" level, we work together to confirm the key shades. If a particular shade doesn't quite match your memory, we make the necessary adjustments before final delivery.
Colourisation: a 10-second manipulation with Photoshop. Why this price?
The colorization process is accompanied by systematic retouching. Those who use these tools professionally know that automatic adjustments act globally and can have undesirable side effects. For example, some areas may be correct, while others may be over-colored, blurry, or even aberrant, which is particularly problematic on faces. In short, a number of meticulous operations may be necessary to detect and correct the flaws that make the image unappealing.
How can I send you my original photos?
From the initial quote stage, clients can attach digital photos to their request. During the consultation process, they will also have the option to upload additional files to their dedicated "Member" area or via email. These digital photos can be used as a starting point. However, for restoration or colorization services, Proxiluz recommends using the original photos on paper, negatives, or slides as a reference. You can drop off your documents directly at our lab in Argentat or send them to us by registered mail with tracking. We advise placing your photos between two rigid pieces of cardboard to prevent any creases during transport. The original photos will be returned to you free of charge upon completion of the work.
How will I recover my photos?
Once the work is complete, you will receive a link to your secure gallery to download your files in High Definition. Your originals will be returned to you in person or sent back via tracked mail.
I have a free scanning app on my smartphone, what's the difference with your service?
A smartphone app takes a "photo of your photo" with a tiny sensor. This results in reflections, blur, and image distortion. At Proxiluz, we extract the image at the source using dedicated scanners. The result is an archival-quality digital file, ready for large-format printing or sharing with family on a big screen.
In what format do you make the work available?
By default, it will be the JPEG digital format with a minimum size of 3000x3000 px, sRGB encoding, 8 bits. If you want a PNG format, for example to take advantage of clipping work, please specify this when ordering.
In what format should I send you my scanned images?
Preferably in JPEG digital format with a minimum size of 3000x3000 px, sRGB coding, 8 bits. But another format is possible depending on your possibilities.
